Guest Blog – Picture Perfect Hvar, Croatia

A friend & customer of mine, Zoe, recently travelled to Croatia for a relaxing holiday with her boyfriend. Here’s her story….

My boyfriend and I travelled to beautiful Croatia in early October. As we flew over the crystal blue Adriatic waters coming into land we knew it wouldn’t take much for us to fall in love with the country. After an hour’s ferry transfer from Split harbour we arrived on the sunniest of the Croatian islands, Hvar.

While our cases were transferred to the hotel we ambled through the cobbled square and found somewhere to have a drink and something to eat. Everywhere we looked was a picture straight from a postcard. What we noticed straight away was how friendly and accommodating the local people are. Given we were there at the end of the season nobody was hustling us to eat at their restaurant; a polite “no thank you” was all that was required.

The Amfora Grand Beach Resort is located in a cove with access to a public pebbled beach. The hotelier has really made the most of the location building the hotel into the hillside giving all the restaurants, bars and pool area the most stunning views out to sea and neighbouring islands. One night we were cruise ship spotting; dreaming of the type of boat we will own when we retire to Hvar….in our dreams.

Just a quick 5 minute walk round the coastal path and we were back in Hvar Town.

We spent everyday by the pool which is certainly the Jewel of this hotels crown. It features a huge swimming area with a built in slide, infinity pool and waterfall as well as seating areas and a swim up bar. As the summer season had ended a lot of the island had closed down but it was easy is see what it had to offer. A 3 minute walk from the hotel and we discovered Hula Hula Beach Bar; the islands most famous bar where you can rent a bed on a jetty over the crystal clear sea while enjoying the music and atmosphere. Cape Diam is another beach club located in the heart of the main resort area; This one is favoured by Prince Harry. There are numerous excursions on offer to visit the Green and Blue coves; named after the colour of the waters there as well as hiring a day boat to discover more of the coast or even nearby islands as well as trips to the local vineyards where the very tasty Croatian Wine is made.

With so much more than a beautiful hotel on offer we will definitely be back to Hvar very soon….

For the longest time, South Africa has been on my bucket list. After hearing stories from my mum about her visit there when she was 18, I knew that one day I needed to go and explore it for myself. Fast forward to a few months ago when Helen received a phone call from Premier Holidays offering me a place on their South Africa Fam trip... safe to say there were tears of joy from myself and Helen. September quickly rolled around and there I was heading down to London Heathrow to meet Nicky (Premier Holidays) and the rest of the group and what an incredible group we had.

I flew out from Leeds Bradford on Thursday 5th October to Porto and stayed at the HF Tuela Porto, which was near the pick up points for the conference. The hotel was only 15 minutes walk away from the outskirts of the bustling centre, the sun was shining so I set off to explore for a few hours. After I’d spent some time wandering around and enjoying a chilled glass of Vinho Verde, the local wine, I sat by the river side and had a bite to eat. Watching the trams pass me by with the sun setting over the Douro river, I reminded myself of how lucky I am to be able to experience beautiful places.

This year my Husband Nick turned 60, and as part of his birthday celebrations we went to one of our favourite places, Kassiopi in Corfu. We have visited Kassiopi a few times now and we couldn’t wait to get back, visit some amazing places and of course see one of my best friends Lucy and her family, she has lived there for 17 years! Over our 3 week stay, more than 40 of our closet friends and families joined us – and they all had the same opinion- they loved this place – Kassiopi and Corfu.

We like to make life as easy as possible on travel day so often we book a hotel the night before. We stayed at Ryland Farmhouse, about 5 miles from Manchester Airport which was perfectly adequate for the night and had the full English breakfast it was one of the best I’ve ever had!
