Georgia’s trip to the Big Apple 🍎

In August 2016, my family and I travelled to the Big Apple, also known as New York!

The moment I stepped off the plane, I knew that this would be one of the best trips of my life. It had always been on my bucket list to visit New York. I’d dreamt of walking down fifth avenue and peering into the designer boutiques and visiting the Empire State Building and this had all become reality.

The hotel we stayed in was on 5th Avenue. Justa short walk around the corner and we were in Times Square, with the bright lights, billboard signs and Broadway shows, Times Square is a must if you visit New York. There are lots of Broadway shows to see in New York. Whilst I was there, I saw School of Rock, it was amazing! The cast, costumes and set were incredible. I would definitely recommend seeing a show whilst there. Other popular shows include Hamilton, The Lion King and Wicked.

I had a wonderful time on the Staten Island ferry which departs from Manhattan to Staten Island and lasts around 25 minutes. This is an excellent chance to get a picture of the breath-taking skyline and the best part…

… it’s absolutely free! Another ferry I would recommend Is the NYC ferry which costs a few dollars but is definitely worth it. The NYC ferry travels to different areas of New York such as Long Island and Brooklyn.

My favourite attractions that we visited were the Empire State Building, the Top of the Rock and the One World Observatory. All of these featured incredible views. My favourite has to be Top of the Rock. We visited in the day time and had a clear view of the city. I overcame my fear of heights to go to all of these attractions and I can honestly say I am so glad I did. We visited the Empire State Building at night and it was so surreal to see the City of lights from above.

New York is fantastic for shopping. There are so many shops for all kinds of budgets. There’s the typical high street stores we have here in the UK such as Urban Outfitters, H&M and Superdry. Then there is the makeup shops such as Sephora (my favourite). There are a few different department stores in New York such as Macys, Barney’s and Bloomingdales. If you feel like treating yourself, why not take a stroll down 5Th avenue where all the designer stores are such as Valentino and Tiffany’s?

New York has so many amazing restaurants. Ellen’s Stardust Diner was fantastic as the staff sing Broadway songs in the restaurant. Another great food spot is John’s Pizzeria which is a restaurant in an old converted church.

Whether you want to visit New York for the lights, the skyline, the shopping or to visit the home alone 2 filming locations . It is definitely one of the most amazing cities in the world.

Thanks for reading, I hope I’ve inspired you

For the longest time, South Africa has been on my bucket list. After hearing stories from my mum about her visit there when she was 18, I knew that one day I needed to go and explore it for myself. Fast forward to a few months ago when Helen received a phone call from Premier Holidays offering me a place on their South Africa Fam trip... safe to say there were tears of joy from myself and Helen. September quickly rolled around and there I was heading down to London Heathrow to meet Nicky (Premier Holidays) and the rest of the group and what an incredible group we had.

I flew out from Leeds Bradford on Thursday 5th October to Porto and stayed at the HF Tuela Porto, which was near the pick up points for the conference. The hotel was only 15 minutes walk away from the outskirts of the bustling centre, the sun was shining so I set off to explore for a few hours. After I’d spent some time wandering around and enjoying a chilled glass of Vinho Verde, the local wine, I sat by the river side and had a bite to eat. Watching the trams pass me by with the sun setting over the Douro river, I reminded myself of how lucky I am to be able to experience beautiful places.

This year my Husband Nick turned 60, and as part of his birthday celebrations we went to one of our favourite places, Kassiopi in Corfu. We have visited Kassiopi a few times now and we couldn’t wait to get back, visit some amazing places and of course see one of my best friends Lucy and her family, she has lived there for 17 years! Over our 3 week stay, more than 40 of our closet friends and families joined us – and they all had the same opinion- they loved this place – Kassiopi and Corfu.

We like to make life as easy as possible on travel day so often we book a hotel the night before. We stayed at Ryland Farmhouse, about 5 miles from Manchester Airport which was perfectly adequate for the night and had the full English breakfast it was one of the best I’ve ever had!
